About Bujumbura

Bujumbura; commonly known by local residents as 'Buja', is the capital city of Burundi. The current size of the city is 86.54 km2 representing less than a percentage of the total size of the country (27,834 km2). There are estimated 550,000 inhabitants.

Bujumbura has a warm and mostly sunny climate. A trip any time of the day at the sandy beaches near the lake is enjoyable. One can sip a juice or drink a beer watching the horizon or sunset and when the warm weather softens, you can enjoy a walk in the busy commercial center or residential areas.

Touristic activities are not as developed as in neighboring countries such as Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and most recently Rwanda; however there has been some positive developments in the last couple of years with a growing number of hotels on offer in and around Bujumbura. The most rapid development can be seen at the Tanganyika Lake shores. The Lake offers activities such as Jet Ski, mini excursions, fishing, sightseeing etc...

Here you will find a variety of services from accommodation, restaurants, sporting to organized day/overnight trips to different parts of the country mostly packaged and serviced from hotels.

Other hotels are situated in areas where a number of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are established. These hotels are well suited for visitors wishing to stay in close proximity to the city center.
